Hello.
Yet another Judo competition (hosted by my coach's club) has ended. The outcome was quite disappointing, I have to say.
I went there with nothing, came home with nothing except for more injuries (on top of my injured knees and stuff orz). ._. Anyway, I don't think my batch was at our prime today and couldn't meet the expectations of our seniors (except a certain batchmate of mine, who never fails to win her bouts).
Personal reflection and a little bit of commentary on my bouts:
First bout
Result - Lost
- at the start, I focused too much on saving energy (I'm the type who goes for speed and overexertion over a very short period of time) and therefore didn't really attack
- my opponent was strong and was heavier than me (I was 3-4 kg below the maximum weight for my category today)
- as usual, I was too nervous and might have been intimidated by my opponent
- I was probably too worried about getting countered so I didn't really attempt my throws
Second bout
Outcome - Won
- won by newaza/holding (Ippon in 25 seconds)
- unexpected, to be honest (I'd never won by newaza techniques before)
- opponent made the first move and attempted to pin me down but we somehow flipped over (I might have countered her attack) and I ended up squashing her
- I focused on pinning her shoulders on the floor, which ultimately helped in holding her down
Third bout
Outcome - Lost
- had to fight my senior (she had a green belt, I had an orange belt)
- based on past experiences, she was a pretty good opponent and was hard to beat
- even though she tried a few throws on me, they were mostly unsuccessful. However, I couldn't make use of her momentum as I was too far away and didn't do my "breaking-balance" techniques properly
- lost because she managed to hold me down (also because when she was holding me down, I was lying sideways and she ended up squashing my shoulder. I couldn't fight back because all my thoughts were focused on the pain in my shoulder and the weight that was exerted on it)
Yeah, that was about it. My team (actually my batch in general) underperformed today. Although it might have been because we hadn't trained for the past week, or maybe because we were too nervous/intimidated? Anyway, it's over, we can't change what turned out in the end.
S.A.D., out~
